Fiberglass windows vs vinyl (upvc)

What is better vinyl or fiberglass windows?

Vinyl and fiberglass windows both have their pros and cons. But because vinyl windows have essential advantages over fiberglass ones, they are more reliable, more convenient, and more affordable with far fewer problems. Although fiberglass is stronger, its is not flexible like vinyl and can not adjust for house movements.
Both vinyl and fiberglass windows come in good options. If you find a good deal on one or the other it can be a good choice. But, no matter what material for the frames you end up picking, you need to consider the week points of both.
The main weak point of vinyl windows is that they are not very strong and thus do not come in huge sizes. However, with the inclusion of steel core frame tubing, vinyl windows become up to 5 times stronger. As well as add to the overall durability, this allows them to be ordered in huge sizes too.
The main weak point of fiberglass windows is the corners of the frames. Although fiberglass is very strong, the corners in fiberglass window frames are week. This is because they are simply glued and fitted into place. On its own, if the house does not shift, this may not be such a big issue. But, if the house starts to shift, there might be problems. Unlike with vinyl windows where they can self adjust because of their flexible properties, fiberglass frames are rigid. As such, if the house starts to shift, the windows will not be able to adjust smoothly. Instead, the force would be redirected to the corners. But, because the corners are week, they may crack. This can break the seal and allow for water leakage. After some time, this problem can grow.

Disadvantages Of Fiberglass Windows

Fiberglass windows have several disadvantages. They are more expensive than vinyl, come in very few color options, have week corners, a higher risk of thermal cracking, and very dangerous to those who cut and drill the fiberglass. Although some of these points may not seem significant to the performance, they are all major disadvantages that can lead to unexpectedly bad results.

One of the first, most noticeable disadvantage of black fiberglass windows is their price. Black fiberglass windows cost more than vinyl but do not offer real advantages over UPVC window frames. The most costly part of fiberglass windows being the frames. Because the frames are expensive to make, vendors try to save on the glass. They do this to offer products at a more competitive price and balance out the cost of the fiberglass frames.

Another disadvantage is that they come in very few colors and mostly just painted rather than the longer lasting gel-coated. This leaves you with few design options. One shade of black and white might be enough for some. But, it is not enough for those who want to make their house more personal and unique. If the color for your window frames is chosen poorly, it can leave you with worse results. This, can lower your house value making it harder to sell the house later on.

Another big disadvantage of fiberglass windows is that they have week corners. Although the material itself is strong, the corner joints are week and the frame is not flexible. This can be a very big problem if your house starts to adjust because of wind. As the frames are solid and do not allow for any movement, they stay in place while the house shifts to one side or the other. This causes the frame to be under lots of tension which all goes to the corners. But, because the corners are week, they may crack. This breaks the water tight seal and allows for water leakage. After a few months, this can be come a mold problem.

There is another con, it has to do with the material itself. This being the cancerous dust fiberglass produces when it is cut. Although the majority of the cuts are done under water to prevent the dust from spreading in the air, some cuts have to be done dry. This is very dangerous to those who cut it as it can potentially leave them with cancer.

The final con of fiberglass windows, esspecially black ones, is the higher heat transfer rate to the glazing from the frames. This may not seem significant nor important, but it can lead to thermal cracking. Especially if the fiberglass windows are black. This is due to the properties of fiberglass and the fact that black absorbs light and heat the most.

So, if you are buying or designing a house with black fiberglass windows, it is important that you know the downsides of black fiberglass window frames. Because of its drawbacks it is critical that you make sure that it is of high quality. If the glazing or frame construction is poor, it is a good idea to set a budget for replacing the glass in the future. Fiberglass windows, because of their downsides, are not very popular.

How Long Do Upvc Window Frames Last

UPVC window frames last about 25 years. Depending on the quality of the product and its maintenance, black UPVC window frames will last 15 – 50 years. This also depends on whether or not the window is operable or not. Picture windows tend to last longer but if the hardware is good, operable windows will last about the same amount.
When determining the service life of black UPVC windows. There are 6 main factors that need to be considered. They are the quality of the vinyl, hardware, steel core frame tubing, how well the frames are assembled, and if the corners are welded or not. For best results, we use only the highest grade UPVC, hardware, and extra wide steel core tubing. In addition to this, the corners are precisely welded together and the frame is professionally assembled. With all these features, you can aspect a customer friendly, affordable price. All in all, our black vinyl window frames will last you far longer than the average. But that is not it. In turn for the high-quality materials, the dark windows not break down as fast. As such, they remain about the same in the long term. If your house starts to shift, no problem. Just adjust the black window in all areas in under 2 minuets per window.

Are Black Pane Windows More Expensive

Black pane windows are considered a colour option, white being the only exception. As such, black pane windows are 10 – 25% more expensive. The cost will vary depending on the finish or vinyl that is used and if it is used on one or both sides of the black pane window.

If the window is originally white, the window needs to be coated in a finish or paint to make it look black. This can be done on either one side of the pane window (e.g. exterior only) or both (interior and exterior). Some venders use black vinyl frames. These frames are originally black. This does mean it is black on both sides. However, this does come with several cons. Mainly, the loss of structural strength and toughness of the vinyl. This occurs because the black powder that is used in the prosses of making black vinyl lowers the strength, toughness, and over all durability of the finished result. If this type of option is chosen, it is important to be careful and only choose high quality black pane windows with wide steel core reinforcement. Otherwise, in the summertime or just generally in hotter climates when the sun is shining, you may be surprised.

Who Makes Black Vinyl Windows

Our European style black vinyl windows are made to be maximally utilized and user-friendly. They are very easy to use, look stylish, and offer superior performance. Over 50 % of vendors who sell black windows don’t value long lasting finishes. Because of this, many rely on painted windows. These may look nice at first, but they do not last long.
However, those who do care about long lasting windows, use vinyl foil covered vinyl windows. However, sometime even Acrycolour finish windows are used. Vinyl foil covered windows are much more secure and do not fad. They also do not need as much maintenance as painted windows.
Our vinyl windows are very durable and will not breakdown anytime soon. Our Acrylcolour option, which is very rare in the market, is a luxury option because of its premium finish and extremely long service life. Acrylcolour windows will last for 70+ years and will not fade out like painted ones do. Even though this is a luxury option, we sell it at a budget-friendly price because we want our customers to have the best.
